【Fujin and Raijin: The moving body workshop】

img_fujinraijin

Fujin and Raijin are both known are well-known deities in Japanese folklore.

Fujin brings delivers powerful wind and rain down into the lower regions of the earth. Raijin on the other hand strikes powerful thunder and lightning bolts from above the sky with his powerful drum.

As recognized by the iconic folding screen illustration of this pair, their mysterious movements may appear to be god-like. But with a dose of courage and self-esteem, we — as humans — can become one with the wind and thunder through the artistic medium of the dance, moving our bodies together in movement.

Join us as we learn how to experience and discover the mysterious power of these gods by emulating their finesse and prowess in this one-of-a-kind workshop kindly offered at Shiogama City’s arts and culture hub.

Saturday, February 11th 2017 from 4:00 to 5:30pm at the auditorium of the Sugimura Jun museum of Art (Shiogama City), 30 minutes east of Sendai

Free admission. The Workshop is for elementary school students but the public is welcome to participate.

Instructor: Kawabata Emiri, Professional Dancer
