SHIOGAMA PHOTO FESTIVAL 2018
Theme: Self and Others

Held every two years since 2008, the Shiogama Photo Festival provides various opportunities to see and experience Shiogama City in a different lens through photography. This festival brings professionals from the world of photography and the general public together with many community events such as exhibitions, public talks, and portfolio review.
For this edition, we focus on our relationships between the “self – me” and “others – you” – a major theme of interest among photographers since the early days of Japanese photography.

800 yen (Festival pass with a map of venues)

By purchasing this pass at one of the venues you first visit, you can enter all exhibitions and events for free during the festival with it. In addition, this pass is only valid during this festival.

EXHIBITIONS:

Shigeo Gocho Photo Exhibition “Shigeo Gocho – An intersection of glances”
Time: 10:00-17:00 (last admission 16:30)
Location: Special exhibition room of Shiogama Sugimura Jun Museum of Art

(8-1 Motomachi, Shiogama City)
Shigeo Gocho was regarded as a photographer representing the Japanese contemporary photography movement in the 1970s and passed away at the age of 36. In his works, he had been seeking “the relationship between self and the world” and “the relationship between self and others” by shooting his family and friends, and the children he met in his daily life. This exhibition shows 40 works selected from his books “Days”, “Yonen no Toki – Childhood moments”, “SELF AND OTHERS” among others.

“Anata/Watashi – You/Me”

Exhibition of photographs by young photographers Mika Kitamura, Yuki Watanabe, Yusuke Hishida, and Daisuke Yokoyama under the theme of “self” and “others”.

Mizue Kitada Photo Exhibition “Because We Are A Single Skin”
Time: 10:00-17:00
Location: Birdo Space

(2-3-11 Minatomachi, Shiogama City)
This is Mizue Kitada’s exhibition featuring a collection of works which won the 2016 Shiogama Photo Festival Prize. You will find her fresh sensibilities through the women portraits of her generation, the natural scenery of her home prefecture of Wakayama, and her daily life with her family, including her dog.

Works by members the of “SGMA Photo Club”, which has been active since 2017 and has a photographer Itaru Hirama as an advisor.

Note for Shokodo visitors: The works are displayed at the shooting studio of Shokodo. Please note that you may not see works during the shooting.

Exhibition of 100 photos taken by junior high school students in Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate prefectures showcasing their feelings and thoughts.

Dinner time: 17:30-21:00 (No tea time menu available at these hours)

*Please note that you may not enter if the entire restaurant is reserved at dinner time.
Exhibition of cat photos taken by Yuko Kawamura and needle felting works by Atsuko Sato.
You can also enjoy the restaurant’s special menu for the festival.


★ASSOCIATED EVENT: “311 POWER of LIFE” A live concert
Date and time: Sunday March 11th, 2018. Doors open at 17:00, concert starts at 17:30.
