塩竈市杉村惇美術館はこれまで市民は記憶の作り手であり、「美術館は“記憶の収蔵庫」という考えのもと、蓄積されてきた“まちの記憶”をふり返る取組みをしてきました。一人ひとりがまちの主役として、地域で新たな生活を創造していくための力になることを目指しています。

本展では、市民の眼差しが捉えた地域の風景画から、積み重なった“まちの記憶”を再発見します。展示には、歴史ある塩竈市美術展の出展作家や杉村惇に師事した画家をはじめ、地元の絵画クラブの皆さんほか市民より提供された絵など、異なる時代・背景の描き手たちによる絵画が並びます。これらに描かれているのは、塩竈周辺地域の歴史を物語る風景や、戦後の貧しくも楽しかった暮らしの記憶です。

画家たちの眼を通して、土地の魅力や歩みを再発見し、私たちのまちへの愛着を一層深く感じることができれば幸いです。

The Shiogama Sugimura Jun Museum of Art operates on the belief that it is the people – the residents of Shiogama and its surroundings – who are the creators of the city’s memories and that the museum itself serves as the repository and the hub – as the guardian of these memories.
Through this lens, we have dedicated ourselves to reflect on and preserve the memories of the city, accumulated over time. Our goal is to empower each individual as a leading figure in the community, fostering the creative energy needed to build a new life within the region.
This exhibition rediscovers the layered memories of our town through regional landscape paintings captured by the residents’ own eyes. The collection brings together works by artists from various eras and backgrounds, including contributors to the historic Shiogama City Art Exhibition, painters who studied under SUGIMURA Jun, members of local painting clubs, and pieces provided by the residents themselves. These paintings depict landscapes that tell the history of the Shiogama region and evoke memories of post-war life—a time that was humble, yet filled with joy.
Through the eyes of these artists, we hope you will rediscover the charm and the journey of this land, and feel an even deeper sense of affection and appreciation for this city.
