Cyril Pedrosa(シリル・ペドロサ)

Born in 1972. After studying animation at Gobelins, he began his career as an animator at the Disney France studio, working on productions such as *The Hunchback of Notre Dame* and *Hercules*. This experience has profoundly influenced the suppleness of his linework, the expressiveness of his characters, and his cinematic, fluid panel layouts.
Subsequently, a meeting with screenwriter David Chauvel led him to transition into the world of *bande dessinée* (BD). He garnered high acclaim with *Trois Ombres* (Delcourt, 2008), winning the “Essentiel” award at the Angoulême International Comics Festival. His 2011 work *Portugal* cemented his reputation, winning numerous accolades including the *Le Point* BD Prize, the Bédéis Causa Award, the Booksellers’ Prize, and the Angoulême International Comics Festival Audience Award.
In 2016, he co-founded “La Vie moderne” with Roxanne Moreil. Their collaborative epic *L’Âge d’or* (published in 2018 and 2020) garnered high acclaim as a grand narrative blending political themes with a medieval aesthetic. He has continued to pursue experimental and painterly storytelling through works such as *Carnets de manifs* (2021), co-authored with Loïc Sécheresse; *Journal d’une bataille* (2024), which explores the boundaries between contemporary art and comics; and *Elsie A.* (2025), created with Roxanne Moreil and Karine Bernadou.
A collaboration with manga artist Taiyo Matsumoto, titled *Nanbanjin*, is scheduled for release in September 2026; this highly anticipated work depicts the initial contact between Japan and Portugal in the 16th century. He also remains active in the field of animation, having served as art director for director Sébastien Laudenbach’s *Carmen, l’oiseau rebelle*.
